Ptak I Pies is a cocktail bar with a young modern twist, located surprisingly centrally, just behind the main drag of Deptak Boguslawa, at Edmunda Bałuki 16. The bar has been open about years and I must admit, we didn’t know it was there until this visit. Quick directions: Walk down to the bottom of Deptak Boguslawa, on the corner of Wojska Polskiego and turn left onto ul. Bałuki. Ptak I Pies is about 2 minutes’ walk on the left-hand side of the ul. Bałuki. Cocktail bars seem to be popping up regularly in Szczecin, since the arrival of the excellent, if somewhat pricey, 17 Schodow (17 Steps) burst onto the scene about 4 years always a bit skeptical about cocktails unless you know what you are getting and who is making them. Anyone can throw a few ingredients into a mixer, shake it about and then pour it into a glass with lots of ice, right? So, our host for the evening, the young, ambitious and knowledgeable Kasper, with his excellent English, put us straight on a few of those myths. There is a fairly standard menu with the usual suspects, but feel free to ask the friendly staff to create something based on your preferences. Most drinks are about 20zl. We had a birthday to celebrate, so cocktails seemed appropriate and Ptak I Pies is a great place to meet with a group of friends. The music was chilled club/lounge beats loud enough to enjoy but not too loud that we couldn’t hear each other. The seating layout works really well and you could easily seat 8 people around a table. We had 5 in our group and had a table tucked away not far from the bar. What strikes you about the venue when you walk in is the colorful décor. It is a bit like Wilk i Zając meets Andy Warhol Pop Art. It may not be to everyone’s taste but we felt it gave a youthful appearance and was a talking point in our conversation. Personally, I really enjoyed the artwork. The bar is clean and well-stocked. Drinks are sensibly laid out and the staff invites you to talk with them to discuss your tastes. They also have plenty of suggestions which we were happy to indulge in. Also, importantly, the washrooms were clean and tidy, a big plus point in our books. The busy times are naturally Friday and Saturday nights, however, our Wednesday night jaunt made for a good atmosphere and a few other groups came in during the evening. There are bar snacks available, but don’t come hungry as there is no cooked food on the menu. Although they do have various shisha option if thats your thing. The drinks we had were a Vodka Cucumber Sour, Whiskey with Almond, Rum with Red Pepper, Bramble with Gin and Whiskey with Pineapple. The staff makes their own syrups in house, including a great banana and cinnamon mixed with spices. The ingredients were very fresh and well presented. To finish the night off we had a round of Coffee shots, with cream and Vodka which was fantastic. We could all have had another round, but needed to work the next day, unfortunately. We agreed we would all come again, probably for another birthday celebration. Nice interior, amazing barmen, great drinks, great prices, and location. Highly recommended!
